ROTAIR to Unveil Industry-First Inverter-Driven Electric Portable Compressor Prototype at SaMoTer 2026 and wins the SaMoTer Innovation Award

Delivering high airflow, intelligent control, and zero direct emissions, the VRK e 7.5–11 kW models are the first in this market category to use advanced inverter-driven technology for efficient electric performance on demanding job sites.

CARAGLIO, Italy – XX April 2026 – ROTAIR SPA, a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of advanced portable air compressors, multi-functional dumpers and hydraulic breakers for more than 60 years and a brand of ELGi Equipments Limited, unveiled the prototype of the VRK-e, industry-first, inverter–driven, electric portable air compressor at the SaMoTer 2026 exhibition in Verona, Italy, from 6-9 May 2026.

The new ROTAIR VRK-e brings portable electric compressors to applications traditionally served by compressors powered by internal combustion engines. The VRK-e will be offered in two power configurations: a 7.5 kW version, delivering up to 1,050 litres per minute at 7 bar, and an 11 kW version, delivering up to 1,600 litres per minute at 7 bar – making it the first in this capacity category to use inverter technology.

Compared to equivalent diesel-powered units, ROTAIR’s prototype combines zero direct emissions, low-noise operation, advanced electronic management and reduced weight, delivering compressed air to a wide range of industrial and infrastructure environments, including urban worksites, enclosed spaces and noise-sensitive areas. Its silent operation helps reduce disruption in densely populated areas, improving working conditions for operators and minimising the impact on surrounding communities.

Practical Value of the ROTAIR VRK-e

The VRK-e is equipped with a next-generation sensorless permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), delivering high power density alongside a significant reduction in weight and size, high energy efficiency and instant, consistent torque availability. The motor is managed via an integrated inverter, enabling precise speed regulation, optimised energy use in line with air demand, a progressive soft start and reduced current peaks. Together, this architecture allows for dynamic control of air delivery, enhancing operational stability and extending component lifespan.

The combination of performance, efficiency and ease of transport makes the VRK-e particularly suited to applications such as sandblasting, dry ice cleaning, industrial blowing, industrial painting, light demolition, horizontal drilling, fibre optic installation and specialised no-dig operations.

VRK-e awarded the SaMoTer Innovation Award

The ROTAIR VRK-e has been awarded the SaMoTer Innovation Award 2026, a recognition that comes even before its official trade fair debut.

The new model was awarded: “For providing a practical and effective solution to reduce emissions and lower operating costs in applications where small compressors are used.”

The award recognises technical and technological innovations in the construction equipment sector that demonstrate new concepts or significant improvements in areas such as energy efficiency, productivity, ergonomics, safety and sustainability.
